A Deeper Look
Annie Lennox and the Eurythmics
The 1980s duo, Eurythmics, were one of the most iconic and successful groups to come out of the era. They had a British synth pop sound that went in and out of trend in the mid 1980s but they continued to release hit songs through the end of the decade. The vocalist, Annie Lennox, and instrumentalist, Dave Stewart channeled electronic synth music into pop songs with a robotic vibe. They are known for their hit song Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) released in 1983 and many more.
Annie Lennox and David Bowie joined forces in 1992 to sing the Queen/Bowie song Under Pressure for the Freddie Mercury Tribute Show. After his passing in 2016, Lennox had posted a tribute to David Bowie, she wrote, “At the loss of someone who has impacted and influenced your life, you can hardly begin to measure the shape of what’s left behind. Our personal and collective inner landscape has shifted and we’re trying to come to terms with it.” She finished her tribute letter with compliments to Bowie’s final album Blackstar that was released two days before he passed.
